Yosma will close its original Baker Street restaurant in favour of a proposed move to Soho. The self-styled “modern Turkish restaurant,” reviewed to some acclaim by the Observer’s Jay Rayner and to something by the Telegraph’s Michael Deacon, will close at 50 Baker Street on 27 January.
Yosma is operated by The Good Food Society, which also runs Frescobaldi in Mayfair, and the Aegean-inspired Hovarda that failed to impress Fay Maschler, itself just south of the neighbourhood that Yosma intends to inhabit. The restaurant group claims that chef Hus Vedat will benefit from the six or seven months off: “Spending time in Istanbul, Hus will travel across Turkey over the coming months, gathering inspiration and seeking out new recipes to bring to Soho.”
That move into Soho will come summer 2019, according to Hot Dinners, but the restaurant has not confirmed a site in central London. If the restaurant does make the move, it will join Civan Er’s acclaimed Istanbul restaurant Yeni, which opens on Soho’s Beak Street on 28 January. Eater has contacted Yosma for confirmation on the proposed site.
