Pitt County Schools cafeteria staff receive culinary training

WINTERVILLE, NC (WITN) Cafeteria Food in one local school district is getting an upgrade thanks to a new culinary training program.

Seventy cafeteria managers and lead cooks representing every school in Pitt County went through a training program Wednesday presented by the K through 12 Culinary Institute.

The program aims to update recipes and flavors while enhancing nutrition. It also helps cafeteria workers preparing breakfast and lunch for students to refine their food preparation and cooking skills.

Staff members prepared some of the new recipes set for next year and then tested them at lunch.

Gretchen Wilson, PCS Child Nutrition Director, says, “Those meals in turn is going to make a student ready to learn, and so what we’re offering are some items that will hopefully bring them in to fill up their stomachs and be ready to learn.”

Pitt County Schools prepares and serves more than 18,000 meals for students everyday.
