James Ellis, 74 | Obituaries


James H. Ellis took flight on March 19, 2019 and went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was at home in Casa Grande, AZ.

Jim was born in Denver, CO to Harold and Ann (Hargraves) Ellis on February 2, 1945.

Jim grew up in his beloved Denver.

He loved the snow sports and the summer sports of fishing, hunting and baseball.

The family moved from Denver to Salina, KS where Jim graduated high school in 1963.

After graduation, Jim had several jobs in Salina before enlisting in the United States Navy and serving in Vietnam.

After returning home, Jim attended Penn State and graduated after studying Psychology.

town, MD, and worked for the State of Maryland until retiring in August 1998.

He went to Arizona to care for his ailing mother. After her passing, Jim called Arizona his home.

He enjoyed watching the Arizona Diamondbacks and Baltimore Orioles baseball.

He loved his Facebook family.

He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes.

He was a member of the Cowboy Church in Arizona City, and the American Legion Post 100.

He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years 364 days, Lynn Poe of Hagerstown; his stepchildren, Dawn R. Mills of Keedysville and Brian B. Mills of Hagers-

town; and grandson, Dayne “Boomer” Mills of Hagerstown. He is also survived by sisters, Billie J. (Ellis) Maize of Aurora, CO and Beverly (Ellis) Gardner (Gary) of Casa Grande; a brother, Thomas W. Ellis (Linda) of Spokane, WA; nieces and nephews, Michael Maize, Diana Maize, Terri Maize, Christine Maize-Rupp and (Chuck) Keith McCune, Karl McCune, Jennifer Alexander, Holly Perona, and Scott Ellis; his former spouse, Terrie Ellis; son, Eric; daughter, Danielle; granddaughters, Cheyenne, Dakota and Destiny; great-granddaughter, Chloe; and great-grandson, Decan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Eugene Maize and Ralph McCune; and a nephew, Myles Maize.

Jim’s celebration of life will be August 18 at 3 p.m. at Wilson Ruritan Club, 16204 National Pike, Hagerstown with a special message from Kevin Smoot, staff member of Grace Academy. You are welcome to attend and share your favorite memory of Jim.
