Everything you need to know about the new IKEA in downtown Toronto

IKEA’s new downtown Toronto location is opening this week. On May 25, grand celebrations will kick off at 9:20 am, before the store opens at 10 am. And this store is unlike any other in Canada.

Let’s have a look at what you need to know prior to visiting!

What’s different about this location?

The downtown Toronto IKEA, which is the first ever urban format store in Canada, is located at the Aura on the corner of Yonge and Gerrard Street at 382 Yonge Street. This location is one of a handful around the world, offering IKEA products all in a small store format. Other IKEA locations with smaller store formats in major cities include Paris and one in Queens, New York.

Toronto’s 66,000 sq. ft. shopping destination includes more than 2,000 products for immediate takeaway, while larger furniture items will be on display and available for home delivery. The store format is bright, with plenty of natural light and spaces decorated as downtown Toronto condos. It is smaller, so you probably won’t spend hours on end in this store… unless you really wanted to.

The two floors at IKEA has a mix of furniture and home furnishing accessories. Plants? Check. Plates? Check. Bedframe for a tiny condo? Check. IKEA encourages those shopping here to use the app, which allows for easy check out. They also add that the space will be a cashless store. There are also multiple checkout lanes available on both levels, including self-checkout.
