large apples, such as Golden Delicious, Fuji, or Rome

apple cider or apple juice

  1. Cut apples into eighths (don’t peel or core them). 
  2. Place apples in medium saucepan along with cider and lemon juice and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until apples are very tender, about 15 minutes.
  3. Press apple mixture through a coarse sieve or food mill to remove skin and seeds.
